Yoga Teacher Training Indonesia: What to Know Before You Book in Bali

Table of Contents

If you are Indonesian and searching for yoga teacher training, most of what comes up is written for foreign travelers planning a long-haul trip. It talks about flights, retreat vibes, and international certification. It rarely answers what an Indonesian student actually needs to know: what this costs locally, whether the certificate means anything back home, and whether the training itself has any room for you.

What Does Yoga Teacher Training in Indonesia Actually Mean?

Yoga teacher training in Indonesia almost always means Bali. Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands, but the training industry itself sits almost entirely on one of them, concentrated in Canggu, Ubud, and Uluwatu. Each area has a different feel. Canggu is social and modern, with cafes and coworking spaces alongside the yoga schools. Ubud leans spiritual and quiet. Uluwatu is coastal and cliffside.

Joga Yoga Training runs its programs in Canggu, close to Bali’s wider yoga scene and beach culture. Joga Yoga Training’s own in-person yoga teacher training in Bali page covers the setting in more detail if you want to see it before applying.

Does a Yoga Teacher Training Certificate From Indonesia Count for Teaching Back Home?

Yes, as long as the school is Yoga Alliance registered. Indonesia has no government licensing body for yoga teachers, so studios judge instructors by credentials rather than a national license, and Yoga Alliance is the credential almost every serious studio recognizes, whether you plan to teach in Jakarta, Bandung, or overseas.

Joga Yoga Training’s 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is accredited under Yoga Alliance’s RYS 200 and RYS 300 standards plus YACEP continuing-education status. Graduates receive an internationally recognized certificate and are eligible to teach worldwide, not just in Bali.

Does Joga Yoga Offer a Local Rate for Indonesian Students?

Yes. Joga Yoga Training confirms on its own FAQ page that it offers a reduced rate for Indonesian students. The published pricing pages show one ladder in IDR and EUR built for international bookings, so the local figure isn’t listed online. Indonesian applicants need to contact Joga Yoga Training directly by WhatsApp or email to get the actual number.

What is published: the current 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training runs from IDR 33 million (non-accommodation) to IDR 52 million (standard private room), before the Indonesian local rate is applied, plus a 5 percent VAT added to the final invoice. Payment goes through bank transfer, Wise, or PayPal, due one month before the course starts.

What the standard price already includes:

  • Daily vegan and vegetarian breakfast and lunch
  • Yoga Alliance certification, internationally recognized
  • All books and course materials
  • A traditional Balinese massage
  • Airport pick-up
  • A sacred water temple excursion
  • Lifetime access to the online student portal after graduation

Who Teaches at Joga Yoga, and Does That Include Indonesian Instructors?

Yes. Joga Yoga Training’s teaching team mixes Indonesian instructors with international ones, so Indonesian students train under teachers who understand both the local context and the international teaching standard. Dr. Ningrum, full name Ningrum Ambarsari, holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from Udayana University and an MBA from Gadjah Mada University, alongside ERYT500 and YACEP credentials, and teaches Ashtanga. Vita, also Indonesian and based in Bali, teaches Hatha and Candle Light Yin.

The wider team includes Joseph Berridge as founder and lead teacher, Dada, a practicing Balinese monk who teaches yoga philosophy and meditation, and Nitish, who focuses on yoga anatomy. The 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training covers asana fundamentals, pranayama, teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy and ethics, and a supervised practicum, across 200 hours over 21 days. Saturdays run a half day and Sunday is free.

You can see the full current team on Joga Yoga Training’s teachers page.

What Do Indonesian Graduates Say About Training at Joga Yoga?

Michelle Sukendro, a freelancer from Indonesia who graduated in February 2024, chose Joga Yoga Training for the “affordable price” and stayed for a mix of local and foreign teachers she says taught her anatomy and spiritual practice she hadn’t expected to get from a teacher training.

Aisyah Baisa, a traveller from Indonesia who completed the 200-hour training in January 2024, described it as “the best experience i could ever wish for” and said the friendships she built became a support network that lasted beyond the course.

Devina Octovinata, a school teacher from Indonesia who graduated in March 2023, trained in a shala she called “quite nice, open, and big,” with a schedule she described as well balanced for students.

All three reviews are published on Joga Yoga Training’s testimonials page.

What Should Indonesian Students Expect That Foreign Students Don’t Have to Think About?

Indonesian students skip the biggest headache foreign students deal with: visas. Domestic travel to Bali needs only a valid ID, no visa application, no long-haul flight, no jet lag eating into the first week of training. Pricing is quoted in IDR as well as EUR, so there’s no currency conversion guesswork on top of tuition.

The training itself sits in Canggu, about 1.4 kilometers, or five minutes, from Batu Bolong Beach, surrounded by rice fields on the quieter side of a fairly built-up area. One thing that doesn’t show up on any pricing page: explaining the decision to family. A month in Bali reads as a vacation to people who haven’t seen a 200-hour curriculum up close. Framing it clearly, daily practice, structured coursework, a supervised teaching practicum, and a certificate that leads somewhere, tends to land better than “yoga trip.”

How Do You Choose Between the 100-Hour, 200-Hour, and 300-Hour Programs?

Choose the 200-hour program if you want the standard first teaching qualification. It’s the right starting point for most Indonesian students and the most widely recognized entry credential.

ProgramBest forPrerequisite
100-Hour Yoga Teacher TrainingA shorter foundation before committing to full certificationNone
200-Hour Yoga Teacher TrainingYour first complete teaching qualificationNone, beginners welcome
300-Hour Yoga Teacher TrainingDeepening teaching skill after certificationA completed 200-hour certificate

Beginners are welcome on the 200-hour track. Joga Yoga Training recommends around six months of consistent practice beforehand, ideally training at least three times a week in the month before the course starts, but no prior teaching experience is required.

Common Questions From Indonesian Students

Do I need a visa if I’m Indonesian?

No. Domestic travel within Indonesia only requires a valid ID, not a visa.

Is the local rate available for every program length?

Joga Yoga Training’s FAQ confirms the local rate applies for Indonesian students. Ask directly for the exact figure on the program length you want, since none of the published pricing pages break it out by program.

What happens if I pay the deposit and can’t attend?

Joga Yoga Training doesn’t offer refunds on the deposit, but it does allow a date transfer to any other course date within a year of paying. Confirm the current deposit amount directly before booking, since it isn’t listed consistently across the site’s own pages.

Before booking, check Joga Yoga Training’s FAQ page for the full list of policies, and compare total cost, not just the headline tuition number.
